Certifications
Valid USA Water Polo Referee Membership and current SafeSport certification are required for all active officials.
Membership Requirements

Experience
Prior competitive water polo experience as a player or coach is highly recommended. New referees will start with youth matches.
Qualifications
Must demonstrate a deep understanding of current FINA and NFHS rules, and pass the annual SDWPOA board review.

Game Availability

Steps to Join

Submit Application
Complete the online membership application form to express your interest in becoming a water polo official in San Diego.

Complete Training
Attend mandatory classroom sessions and deck training to learn the rules of the game and officiating mechanics.

Pass Evaluation
Showcase your skills during live game evaluations where senior officials will assess your knowledge and judgment.
04
Final Clearance
Once cleared, you'll be eligible to receive assignments and start your journey as a SDWPOA certified official.
